This is the last piece I’m writing and posting on Medium. I joined Medium, and its Partner Program, in August 2020 because I was struggling financially and was told I could make money writing.
Also, I became a member so that I could read other writers’ stories and support them. My situation was so bad that even paying the five-dollar-per-month membership fee was difficult for me, but I did it because it wouldn’t be fair to expect support from others without giving it back.
So many people had shared their experience making so much money on Medium. I love writing, so I thought this would be the way to go. Of course, I didn’t expect to make hundreds of dollars the first month, but I thought after a couple of months I would have a little side income so I wouldn’t suffer so much financially.
Sadly, this did not happen at all. I spent an average of an hour a day writing and publishing stories on Medium and reading other people’s stories, and I earned-
Well, a picture is worth a thousand words.
As you can see, I didn’t even make up for the money I paid for the membership, let alone create a side income when I so desperately needed it.
So before I say goodbye, I would like to thank all those who read my articles and my stories, especially those few people who continuously supported me: Terry, Cris, Patricia, Kris, and Samantha. It was a pleasure knowing you through your writing.
I will not renew my membership simply because I cannot afford to do so, and therefore I can no longer support you.
I wish you all health and happiness in the new year. May 2021 be kind to us all, and may we be wise enough to apply all the lessons we learned, especially those we were taught in 2020, to our lives.
Thank you for reading.
And to Medium I say, “Really?”
